This week I am bringing you a video because my poor soul is so tired and wiped from rehearsal. I hope you enjoy the choreo from this week! This song is called Blood in the Water and is used as Professor Callahan's entrance into the musical. If you have any questions about what exactly we are doing, please comment! This video is from the Texas State University musical but it is the same choreo we are doing. I cannot show you the real videos of us because those are disclosed until show time!

Wow! Legally Blonde is finally here! I am loving it! Oh My God! It is so much fun. I am so happy to reunite with all of my friends from UNCSA and get started. Nick, my director, starts right away; we only have until the end of May to pull this huge show together.
For those of you who dont know what Legally Blonde is about, here is the official synopsis:
Well, Smile is over. I am so sad to be leaving such a strong and talented cast. The last show went really well, I was happy to be done with the show itself. It is really hard to do a show for two weeks and do school at the same time. But, in happier news: LEGALLY BLONDE STARTS NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!
I am so excited for Legally Blonde. The nice thing about Legally Blonde is that I am not in a majority of the dances. This means that I will not have to be at rehearsal the whole time or not even have to go at all. I have attached my rehearsal schedule for the week of April 30th-May5th. The times that I am needed to be there is highlighted in pink. Starting next week I will be including videos and pictures from rehearsal so that you can get the full experiance. I love doing shows at UNCSA. I will also include the link for tickets if anybody wants to come! That link will be on my home page. See you guys next week! It is crazy how fast these weeks have flown by. Sorry there was no post last week but I had family in town and it was Easter! Smile is opened and the shows are going great. It feels more like a big rehearsal if I am honest. Riley came and it was so sweet because it's nice that he supports me!
We have one more week of Smile! I can't believe how fast shows go by. You feel like you are in one scene and then the next minute you're at curtain call. I have had the best time working with such a great group of people. I am sad that the show will be closing next week but I cannot wait for Legally Blonde. That is what I have been looking forward to the most. Sorry for the short blog but not much has happened except shows! Ttyl! I know what you're thinking. "Katie, where have you been for the past two weeks?". Let me tell you! I am so emotionally and physically drained because of the past two weeks. We have been running the show because next week is tech week! We have rehearsal from about six to as late as twelve. After next week, the show opens!
This past week has been insane. Two girls in the show are terrible. I know it might sound mean but just listen. They don't know their lines, the dances, or the songs. Our cheoreographer, Cheri, has cut them from almost every dance. I felt bad at first but then I noticed it was for the best. On top of all the dances and songs and such, one of the girls decided to cut her hair. For those who aren't in the theatre community, it may seem like it's not a big deal. But, it is. She didn't just cut her hair slighty, she cut it so it's a "boy haircut". This is supposed to be a show about PAGENT girls. Pagent girls usually don't have short hair. The director, Jamie, hasn't said anything but all the other girls in the show feel like he will soon. I apologize for my absense but these few weeks are really rought and taking a toll on me. My voice is gone, my body hurts, and my mind is numb. Can't wait for opening night! Hello once again! This was such a busy week. I learned all the dance numbers. It was quite hectic. I feel like I’m getting in shape as the days go by as well.
Cherri is a very good choreographer. I love all of the dances. The first dance, Typical High School Senior, is about the girls leaving for the pageant so we all have suitcases and backpacks and such. The second number, Young and American, centers around the preliminary section of the pageant. The final number, Until Tomorrow Night, highlights the girls feelings about the upcoming beauty pageant. Next week we go back to Jamie. After this week we are going to start running the whole show. We are also bringing in costumes. The show is coming up faster than I thought. I will try to record videos of the dances so I can put them in the blog. Sorry for another short blog but a lot is not happening. I am hoping for more to happen soon. Much love! Hello! This week is so much better than last week! I feel so refreshed and there is no more pain! I spent the week doing what I do best, nothing. I went to rehearsal a few nights this week to do music but it was so easy and nice. A majority of my week was spent with Riley, at home, or at some appointment.
I am no longer sick so it makes it easier for me to sing soprano. I have some super and I mean SUPER high notes. I love Stephen. Although he is very soft spoken, he is a total sweetheart and cares for all of us. He goes out of his way to make personalized recordings for each of the girls which is so helpful. This week is Cherri’s week. I have never been more unhappy and scared in my entire life. I hate dancing because I simply cannot do it. I am very uncoordinated and out of shape. Going to the gym is so hard for me because I have so much going on EVERY SINGLE DAY. But, I will keep you guys posted on how Cherri’s week goes! Sorry that this blog post is short but not a lot is going on right now. When Legally Blonde starts, posts will be longer and in more detail. I cannot wait to have a jam packed schedule and be doing something every day. Thank you so much for reading my blog! Ciao! Hey everybody. This has been the worst week of my entire life if I’m being quite honest with you. We started music rehearsals. Music rehearsals are long, boring, and tiring. I am at my wits end. I also got my wisdom teeth out on Friday. Let me tell you, when you get those bad boys out, you cannot do anything anymore.
On Monday I went to rehearsal and met our music director, Stephen. Stephen hates to be called ‘Steve’ and will only let us call him Stephen. Stephen is also very quiet. Along with Jamie, I don’t think Stephen knows how to deal with large groups of people. We only got through two songs, which isn’t a lot for a three hour rehearsal. When I left, I could not feel my throat. I think I am getting sick but I refuse to get sick because that limits the things I already cannot do. I got my wisdom teeth out on Friday. That is the worst possible thing that you can do to yourself when you’re in the middle of a show. I have music rehearsal THREE days this week that I won’t be able to sing at because I can’t open my mouth more than four inches. I have resulted to watching people eat food I cannot because I am so desperate to chew on something and not eat instant mashed potatoes. I also have to drag myself to those rehearsals, hyped up on pain medication, after a whole day of school. On top of all of this, I haven't stopped bleeding. I didn't get stitches because my healing process is just my blood clotting. I have four giant holes in the back of my mouth just chilling because the oral surgeon decided I didn't need stitches. That is it for this week. I am tired and in pain. I hope you enjoyed my rant fest on how much I do not enjoy life right now. I promise next week will be more optimistic. Until then! Welcome to my first “official” blog post! I had quite a hectic week. I got my script for Smile, I went to a show, and I had TONS of school work. Hopefully, next week will be a lot smoother and less hectic.
This week, I had two long rehearsals for Smile. The first rehearsal jumped right into it. We started blocking right away and got up to page 52. The second rehearsal was on Saturday and it was only from 9-10:30. We blocked pages 52-79. All the girls in the musical are very nice. I play a girl named Cookie who has a crazy gospel solo in one of the songs. I also fall and spraign my ankle in one of the big dance numbers. This show is a LOT more adult than I thought. It’s hilarious and it is so funny watching my director, Jamie, laugh at the lines that some of us girls have to say. Next week, we start music rehearsal. Along with music, we are starting choreography. Our choreographer, Cherri Von Loon, is a little crazy. She is very intense and likes to get the job done. Next week is going to be very rough and I've started going to the gym so I can be ready. Until next blog! Welcome to my project! My name is Katie Hines and I am focusing on bettering my acting abilities throughout these twelve weeks. I'm also looking at what it takes to act professionally. I will be in two shows during the twelve weeks.
I chose this project because this is what I want to do with my life. I've been told by all of my teachers that if I am certain I want to do this, I have to get serious about everything. The first few weeks I am in a show called Smile where I play a girl named Cookie. Smile is a musical about the beauty pagent industry. The last weeks I am in my main production, Legally Blonde. This show is my one of my biggest because I am playing a lead role, Vivienne Kensington. This show is the focus of this presentation. Overall I am excited for this Genius Hour. I am also doing a personal diary where I will write stuff day to day. I can't wait for you to see my progress! |
